Bell Jar Pendants

I recently posted this dining room photo from House Beautiful and thought I would post it again for this post. I have always loved bell jar pendants for their simplicity, lightness and versatility. They are equally at home in a dining room, kitchen,  entry way or hallway.

Before and After Party! (A TV cabinet redo.)

Well hello! I am posting this party early this evening because I hope to spend the night finishing up loose ends on my home show presentations and spending quality time with my boys. :) I hope you had a great weekend! Since hubs was out of town, the Bubs and I were busy tearing up the house so my husband would come home and wonder what in the heck I was up to again working on the family

My cup of joy...

It was a school / college girl feeling... We bunked classes, only to gossip & dip our hands into paint!!

Have you been to Cafe Ceramique.... I love cafes... but this one is special!!

You walk in... and choose what you'd like to paint!! Let your creative mind get to work... Then ask for the paints that you will use...

In the meanwhile.... order your coffee... and start gossiping as well!!

I love this place... the decor is just right... Can you spot the long vase with paint brushes in them??

The lovely wrought iron chairs, wooden ceiling... and lots of ceramics around you.... set you in the right mood!!

A closer look at the floor...

The food is great as well....

You can paint... anything you want.... I painted my cup of joy..... for a special someone - who fills my life with joy!!

My cup of treasured memories...

RIP Squishy (and come see me!)

Well, Squishy croaked. Or choked. Can a fish choke? I don’t know, but hubby checked on him the other night (he did every night, isn’t that adorable?) and all I heard was “Uhhh…honey? Did you feed the fish?” Poor Squish was a floatin’. I almost cried. I couldn’t believe it! He was fine when I fed him the night before, and I saw him eating his food. But the food was still floating too. So sad!

A Light Transformation

A few months back my heart skipped a beat when I found this gorgeous chandelier for ten dollars at the thrift store. It looks right at home in our foyer. There was just one problem with updating the foyer light.
The dining room light now looked a little tired and dated.
I love the fixture itself and knew that with just a little transformation it could look fresh and new.
These socket covers can be found where light fixtures are sold. I am drawn to the warm color and the details that resemble a burning candle.
I've used them before on our master bedroom chandelier. It's a simple fix. Simply pull off the old socket cover and replace it with the new---but first measure the length of the existing covers to be sure they'll fit.
The new covers and some pretty crystal (that are actually Christmas ornaments) are all this chandelier needed to give it new life.

I’m Feeling Blue (in a good way)

There were two reasons I was excited to receive my March House Beautiful in the mail yesterday. First of all, I usually receive my US subscriptions weeks after they have been on the newsstands, so to receive a March issue in January made me smile. The second reason was the issue was all about the colour BLUE, which is a favourite colour to use when decorating not just my own home, but clients’ homes as well. Erin of House of Turquoise gets a mention in editor in chief Stephen Drucker’s column. Way to go Erin!

I love the use of blue in this dining room especially the slipcover fabric on the chairs – Jasper’s Indian Flower in Blue.

Gorgeous glass tile described by designer Marshall Watson as “periwinkle verging on cobalt.” It’s a kitchen in Fire Island, New York which is 5 miles out in the ocean so careful consideration had to be given to the building materials. For example, the walls are all wood (not drywall) which breathes and bends in a storm. That’s what I love about this magazine – the insight from designers as to the design choices they made.

Great idea – 1” x 6” blue glass tiles lining the perimeter of the bathroom near the ceiling. Love the mix with the 12” square wall tiles and the hexagon floor tiles.

This room has three things I love – round mirrors, branches and subtle wallpaper (see earlier posts).

Although I don’t think I would personally do a patterned sofa and rug, there’s something about this room that says come on in, sit and stay a while.  An artist painted the nautical chart of Long Island in the “map room” – how unique is that?

blueHB5

I love the bookcase painted in Farrow and Ball’s Down Pipe which looks very gray on the paint chip but quite blue in this photo.

Now that I have done yellow and blue posts, I think red will be next, don’t you?

Sayonara swirls!

Well, it was time for them to go. I put the wainscoting on our family room walls a few years ago. Three years exactly really – the Bub was asleep in his bouncy seat while I installed all of them.  :) After being on bed rest for so long I was itchin’ for a project! I think he was less than two months old when I decided to attack this one. I love stencils, I’m not gonna lie. You can see how I’

Moving Music

Do you remember months ago when I wallpapered the odd nook at the end of my downstairs hallway with aged sheet music? Every time I see it it makes me smile. The only problem is that I don't see it that often since it's downstairs at the end of the hallway.
So I decided to combine that idea with this idea
to make this. Now I can display an aged sheet music collage wherever I'd like. And for now I'd like it in my dining room surrounded by mercury glass and real and electric candles.

Painted floor

As I walked into Bab Al Shams... I noticed what I was walking on was not a carpet.... it was a painting!! I fell in love with it and just had to share this with you....

I've featured a lot of paintings on walls.... here is paintings on the floor!!

A wider look... Dont you think it looks exactly like a carpet??

Now I have this urge to paint a carpet at home......

Decrapification: The pantry

OK, this is super weird, but when I just went to go find the post I did about our pantry last year, I realized it was almost exactly a year ago that I reorganized our pantry last time. I showed you here in January of last year how I used a smokin’ deal at the discount store to reorganize this space. Well, a year later, I still don’t have the new door with seedy glass and a light installed inside

Occasional Glimpses

The other night I walked through our darkened home. I walked into the family room and turned on the lights. Their glow brought enough light that I needn't turn on any others. As I finished up in the kitchen I turned and looked into lit the family room.
At that moment I got a glimpse, a still shot, like a photo in a magazine. The room was far from magazine perfect. Pillows and toys were strewn across the floor, which needed a good vacuuming. All of the surfaces needed to be dusted, but still I got that glimpse that happens on occasion.
I stood to take it all in.
Along with the glimpse came a feeling of reverence.
This is our home. Ours.
We are the ones responsible for making it a place of comfort. It is a place where laughter abounds,
where friends are welcome.
A haven for memories.
A shelter from the storms of life.
A sanctuary for our family.
I stood in awe as I thought of how
our hands have created many of it's contents.
This is the same room I pass through dozens of times each day
but at that moment it felt different.
It seems that I get so busy with the day to day that
I lose sight of the wonderful details that are my life
. So when those occasional glimpses occur I try to take it all in,
cherish
the moment,
appreciate
what has been revealed to my soul
and express gratitude for the blessings I have been given.

For I am truly blessed.

No fear!

OK, first…awwwwww yeah Colts!!!!!!! What a great weekend!! Got some quality time with my hubby and my Bub, and got to go to the most exciting football game of the year because of my lovely, gorgeous, fantastic friend. No, that’s not her in the picture. ;) Hope you had a great weekend too! Amanda (lilgrebs4 (at) hotmail (dot) com) won the free room consultation by My Design Guide! Amanda,

Inspiration for a Rainy Monday

It’s a rainy, grey day here, so I thought I would brighten things up and what better way to do that than by decorating with the colour yellow. Here comes the sun…
