Pinterest fail (curls)

OK peeps, this may be my one and only hair post here at TDC. Well, there is one other tip I found that actually works great on my hair, so maybe there will be two…someday. Don’t worry, it won’t become a thing. You’ll see from my photos that I’m meant to photograph house stuff, not myself. Anyway, I actually found this hair trick at Pinstrosity – it’s a fun little site that you must check out!

Outdoor Dreamin’

Hello and welcome to the (almost) weekend! Got anything fun planned? Not much here other than time with my loves, maybe a little decluttering and DIY, and perhaps a nap. Perfect weekend at home. :) It’s only 32 degrees here today but I’m dreaming of warmer weather already…we were teased with a lovely 65 degrees last weekend and it was fabulous! We took advantage of the warm weather to address

Is this your dream house?

Hey hey! How are ya? I’ve been dealing with some computer problems this morning, hence the late post. I thought those weren’t supposed to happen on a Mac?? ;) Anyhoo, the other day I caught the last few minutes of the HGTV dream house special and was pleasantly surprised with the bits I saw. Every year there are definitely parts I love and some I not-so-love. I found a little of both when I

Your Beautiful Bedrooms!

Well hello there and welcome to the weekend! :) I’m bragging on a few of you today – I went through the latest Show Us Your House linky and could not believe all of the beautiful bedrooms! I seriously had to stop adding pics – it was so hard to narrow this down! SO many pretty spaces and great ideas – let’s take a look at a few! I think I caught my mouth hanging open when I saw Kristin’s

Bookcase love

Hey all!! Lots to be excited about today! First of all, it is the weekend!! Yay! Second…I’m making progress on the bookcases in the dining room. Finally! I got the lights up and installing them was the easy part. I searched for MONTHS for the right lights -- that weren’t $250-$400 each (and I need four!) and the other day I finally figured out a solution, for $140 TOTAL. So stinkin’ excited

(Big fat) project FAIL

Soooo. OK. I was SO stinkin’ excited about this project. So. excited. I saw it on a blog a couple weeks ago and could not WAIT to do it. It was a mixture of (CUTE!) art and organization and I knew it would be super fun when it was done. But it was a FAIL. And I’m more than a little peeved about it, I gotta be honest. I saw this idea on the Land of Nod blog (Honest to Nod) and immediately

Beautiful family rooms

Hello all! Hope you had a fantastic week and have an even better weekend planned. I’m looking forward to some time with some girlfriends and perhaps some pumpkin picking? The weather is supposed to be fabulous. Why do I always talk about the weather? I don’t know. It’s my thing. Anyway, today I had to show off some of the LOVELY family room spaces you all linked up last month at the August

Pinterest-inspired: DIY jewelry cleaner

Hey hey! I’m back today with a Pinterest-inspired post that I’ve been meaning to share for a while now. My plan is to start writing more of these posts – taking simple projects or helpful tips I find on Pinterest and showing how they turned out for me. This one is super simple and cheap (free if you have the basics on hand). I found this DIY jewelry cleaner while pinning months ago and it’s

Weekend ramblings

Bear with me folks, it’s one of those posts with no real point and not much focus. ;) Excuse me while I ramble a bit. You know the list? The one with a meeeellion projects I want to get done in less than 30 days? Well, I’ve been SUPER busy. I’ve accomplished three things on the list and about ten that aren’t. That is how I roll. :) I’m gearing up for a TON of painting and need to figure

Pretty pantries!

Hello all! I’m pretty much done with my little pantry makeover – there’s a little bit of painting left to do, but I may just leave it primed and call it done. ;) I’ve been able to load all of the food back in and I’m having fun (yes, I said FUN), reorganizing everything so it works better for us. It’s lot more enjoyable when there’s plenty of space to work with! I’ll share the finished

Pretty work spaces

Well happy Friday and weekend to YOU!! I gotta say, your responses to my last post made me feel SO MUCH better. I certainly do not feel alone, especially since so many of you feel the way I do. There were SO many great suggestions (yes, I read every comment) and a couple of you mentioned the Sleep Cycle app on the iphone. I had heard of it before and decided to give it a try. You see, I don’

53 Days

Hello and Happy Halloween! Hope you had a wonderful day and evening! :) We had a great time chasing a very excited pirate around the neighborhood. And I ate a LOT of food. I mean. Lots. Well, it’s about that time folks. It’s now November…uhhh, well it will be when most of you read this…so I’m allowed to say the “Christmas” word. I’ve actually been talking and thinking about it for a good month

Comfort Foods

Can someone check my temperature? For real – I have been a cooking fool over the past week. Like, using my crock pot more than I have in the past year. In a week. And this, the week we have no kitchen. Well, we have one, but it’s kinda half of one – I have to walk across the house to get to the fridge in the garage. Which makes cooking way more exercise than usual. Maybe I’m burning off the

Pottery Barn pillows (on the cheap!)

Well hello! Hope you are having a great week! There has been awesome progress on our outdoor project this week, and I’ll show you that very soon! It is SO exciting to watch an ongoing project that I don’t have to complete myself. It’s an odd feeling to not be doing the work…but pretty a cool one. :) Anyhoo…so I may have mentioned a few times that I’m nutty for the Pottery Barn catalog. I’m

When DIY Goes Oh-So-Wrong

This is the story of a fun, free DIY project gone very, very wrong. Fun…snort. Free? Whatever. It has a happy ending, thankfully. It was ALL my fault, and there may have been a few tears because of that. :) It started with my love of black interior doors. I’ve been smitten with them for years now, but I’ve always been just a teensy scared to get out the paint brush. But then I noticed a

Organizing the inspiration

Hey all! Some of you may have noticed that Blogger was down for awhile this week, and when it came back up, my last post lost all of it’s comments. So if you left a comment with a suggestion (I’m looking for perennial ideas), I would love it if you would add it to the comments again. (I reference them later!) Speaking of referencing ideas. ;) Many of you have asked how I organize all of the

A mossy vignette

Well, if spring isn’t going to show up, I’m going to WILL it here. I’m planting my herbs tomorrow (inside), I’ve refused to wear my coat for the past few days and gosh DARN IT, I am decorating for it. And if you decorate for it, it will come. That’s my hope anyway. :) I wanted to spring bling out our foyer and the first project was an easy one. The inspiration came from Pottery Barn: Are

Rustic Pottery Barn knock off

Hey HEY! The Before and After Party is going strong – be sure to check it out and link up! SO MUCH fantastic inspiration! It’s time for another holiday link up: We’ve seen some amazing mantels at Layla’s, beautiful vignettes at Rhoda’s, and now I can’t wait to see all the crafty goodness at Kate’s! I was inspired by this project months ago when I got a Pottery Barn catalog and saw this:

Mixing metals

You all rock! I loved your responses to the bed making post. :) Thanks for the leads on sheets that fit the monstrous mattress – I’m going to check them out! I get a lot of questions about what’s kosher when it comes to mixing metal finishes on hardware, light fixtures and faucets in houses. First of all, I must say (again) – if you want to have 15 different finishes in your house, go for it.

Catalog living

Well heya! How was your weekend? I spent a few hours today completely wasting my time on a project – it’s one of those that just was a total FLOP. But as hubby always reminds me, at least I know now that it didn’t work, and I won’t always wonder. ;) Gah. (More on that later!) When things don’t go right with my projects, I often take solace in a little luxury – taking a few minutes to browse my
