The Weekly Story ~ wk 71

Did you read my post on 'The Key Bunch' ... was a Women's Day special... The post is a little about me... and the responses were overwhelming... I've also read through all your emails... I'm touched!! I'm humbled... Thank you!! Thank you for coming to my little blog every other day... and making every minute I spend on this worthwhile... *smiles*...

Now, Dubai is still enjoying the outdoor weather.... so last weekend.... the girlies and I had a 'pink picnic'....

And while, I'm talking about outdoors, I'd like to share a few expert tips from the ~ Home Centre

· Give a
garden feel to your spacious balcony/veranda with a flourish of plants and
flowers. If you are unable to take care of outdoor plants, opt for artificial
foliage, some of which could pass off as authentic. Place them on either side
of a seating arrangement or ends of the terrace for a streamlined look.

· For a more
natural vibe, go for a variety of flowering and leafy plants with a range of
different pots to give your outdoor space an organic look.

· Crates and
wicker baskets make a great alternative for plant pots. The casual home-made
style is the trend this season.

· Lanterns,
hurricanes and candle holders in abundance light up your terrace décor –
literally. Hang them asymmetrically at different heights to lend a creative
touch.

· Opt for
warmer light bulbs than bright, white lights.

· Fluff up
your outdoor seats with a bunch of cushions to create a snug and welcoming
mood. A throw can also be a perfect addition for a nippy winter evening.

· If you
have tiles that look cold and hard, lay wooden flooring tiles for a warmer and
softer look.

· Pebbles
and stones can create a beachy outdoor feel.

I love pink... don't you?? Hope you enjoyed out little outing... Once we started... this place turned into a complete wreck.. I only show you the good pics... *smiles*...

Creative outdoors

You'll be shocked to see what my cousin Lesley did to his balcony ... Is this creative or what? An aspiring commercial pilot by profession... Who would say, he is not an artist or a designer??

This is the balcony of his apartment here in Sharjah... The Buddha is hand painted by Lee!! *surprised* .... I was too!! *smiles*

Then he went ahead and painted the other walls of his 13th floor balcony too... Here is a brick effect...

some more passionate bricks... and patterns...

I'm linking in to these blog parties!!

The yellow thing in the bottom image, he picked from the bin... It was brown in colour.. He doesn't even know what its really meant to be... But to him.. his creepers will eventually grow on it... He painted it yellow... and it looks perfect against the dark brown wall...

I'm truly super impressed... and I hope you are too...

Did you like his work of art?? Awesome!! Isn't it??

'In the spotlight' for the month of June is Buddha Scapes ... hope you are linking in!!

Here is where we entertain our guests.... the wroght iron table is made to look new by my uncle... when he was here on his short holiday.. He even painted my bench.. *smiles*

Green Thumb Decor - Shoba's indoors

Hope you enjoyed Shoba's outdoor series.... Here are some images of her breathtaking indoors.. *sigh*

A little about Shoba ~

My name is Shoba and I am an engineer by profession. I am a mom to an eleven year old bratz Shreya who is my go to gal for my clothing advice. I love being outdoors, travelling and exploring new places, browsing the web, reading all the décor blogs and garden blogs in my spare time. On weekends I bug, and sometimes bribe my daughter and husband to join me on my hikes. Both of them can compete in winning the title “Couch Potato”, so I have to put extra effort in getting them out !

The little white swan and the black flowery containers are goodwill finds.

Succulents are my current favourite, since after many trials and errors and after killing a lot of plants, I have found that most succulents need less tending and seem to survive better.

Someone at work left some mugs for free and I picked a few that looked cute and brought them home. I filled them with soil and stuck a succulent in them and I make sure I sprinkle very little water once a week. They bring me cheer when I am washing the dishes !

I spray painted a mirror (which needed some TLC) I found on clearance. With the husband’s help we hung it in the garden to add a pop of color.

Hope you enjoyed the Green Thumb series as much as I did... Don't forget to check out the other entries... !!
