Back yard...

Yard!! *smiles*... the space we have can hardly be called a back yard.. Its a little space.... where you definitely can enjoy a lovely evening.. a hot cup of tea... or simply some peace ....

The above pic is my new 'cozy corner'...

Here is where we entertain our guests.... the wroght iron table is made to look new by my uncle... when he was here on his short holiday.. He even painted my bench.. *smiles*

This is new.... It didn't find a place in my home.... so its outdoors now...

The hanging lamp is a gift by Kamini... isn't it gorgeous!!

Wedding Inspiration

I don’t usually write non-decor posts here at Decor Happy but in honour of the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton this morning, I’m joining Danielle’s wedding blog crawl.  Go here to see who else is participating and read their posts.

I married my sweet guy 13 years ago this May at an intimate wedding at McLean House in Toronto.  Although I wouldn’t change a thing about our day, I thought it would be fun to create a wedding based on what I’m loving today.  Before we start though, here are a few photos of us on our wedding day.

If I was planning my wedding today, I would do things a little differently as tastes change over the years.   I would send out invitations like these fun and informal ones from Etsy seller Pinkroses1220.  Mine were a bit on the formal side.  I would probably add a touch of pink in the lettering as the colour scheme I’m loving lately is blush pink and deep blue/French blue.

This dress from Monique Lhuillier is just gorgeous and has a similar cut to the one I wore but has the added lace detail – simply beautiful.

And I would carry this pretty bouquet with the adorable striped ribbon:

Bridesmaids would wear these pretty dresses from Amsale in blush pink and French blue, in slightly different styles.

The men w0uld wear a tie or bowtie like one of these:

Our wedding ceremony was outdoors but we dined inside.  I like the casual vibe of this outdoor wedding via Style me Pretty and there is nothing quite like dining outdoors at night.

I would do something a trifle more dramatic with the centerpieces – perhaps a smaller version of these?

And I would love to have fun photos likes these taken by Toby Hoogs rather than the conservative shots our photographer took.

Would you change anything about your wedding if you were getting married today?

Congrats Will and Kate! May you have many happy years together.

Green Thumb Decor - Shoba's indoors

Hope you enjoyed Shoba's outdoor series.... Here are some images of her breathtaking indoors.. *sigh*

A little about Shoba ~

My name is Shoba and I am an engineer by profession. I am a mom to an eleven year old bratz Shreya who is my go to gal for my clothing advice. I love being outdoors, travelling and exploring new places, browsing the web, reading all the décor blogs and garden blogs in my spare time. On weekends I bug, and sometimes bribe my daughter and husband to join me on my hikes. Both of them can compete in winning the title “Couch Potato”, so I have to put extra effort in getting them out !

The little white swan and the black flowery containers are goodwill finds.

Succulents are my current favourite, since after many trials and errors and after killing a lot of plants, I have found that most succulents need less tending and seem to survive better.

Someone at work left some mugs for free and I picked a few that looked cute and brought them home. I filled them with soil and stuck a succulent in them and I make sure I sprinkle very little water once a week. They bring me cheer when I am washing the dishes !

I spray painted a mirror (which needed some TLC) I found on clearance. With the husband’s help we hung it in the garden to add a pop of color.

Hope you enjoyed the Green Thumb series as much as I did... Don't forget to check out the other entries... !!

DIY memo board, take two

Hey all! This week is going by SO FAST! Can you believe the weekend is almost here? If you’ve read this here blog for a while, you know I share the fails along with the good stuff. And sometimes there’s a project that’s not necessarily a fail --  it just doesn’t work the way I had hoped. Case in point – the DIY memo board in my office: I showed you how I made it back in January. After I

Spring Break Showers and a Product Review

We've spent a rainy Spring break week in Kentucky visiting the grandparents and meeting the newest cousin:

Seriously, it hasn't stopped raining since the day after we got here.  My dad and I did venture out once to go shopping, only to end up in the back closet of a home decor warehouse (along with the three employees) due to a tornado watch.  I don't think I would've survived on the ark.

So, back to my kids for a minute. . . .I just ordered this photo canvas of some pictures I took at Easter.  (No, not this Easter; a year ago Easter.  I'm just that on top of things.)

I was contacted by Home Decor By Me, a site specializing in personalized photo canvases, books, gifts, etc., to be part of a focus group and to test drive their site.  I chose a 16x20 size photo-wrapped canvas and couldn't be more pleased.  The quality is really clear, and I finally have something on that blank wall around the corner from our kitchen that always bothered me.

And, because the third child always gets slighted, I had never put together any kind of baby book for sweet baby #3.  I decided the easiest route at this point was to also order a photo book from Home Decor by Me and put my favorite pictures from her first two years all in one spot.

She was obviously happy with the result:

Word to the wise. . . Their web site was extremely user-friendly; however, if you decide to put one of these photo books together, I would strongly suggest registering first so that it saves your work.  I only initially signed in as a guest and accidentally closed the wrong window, losing all of my work. . . . Lesson learned.

To see more of their product offerings, visit Home Decor by Me here.
