53 Days

Hello and Happy Halloween! Hope you had a wonderful day and evening! :) We had a great time chasing a very excited pirate around the neighborhood. And I ate a LOT of food. I mean. Lots. Well, it’s about that time folks. It’s now November…uhhh, well it will be when most of you read this…so I’m allowed to say the “Christmas” word. I’ve actually been talking and thinking about it for a good month

Beautiful Wallpapers

I decided to feature wallpaper for my latest Ideabook for Houzz.  There is so much available on the market today and I featured a few of my favourites.  Wallpaper is one of those elements that people either love or dislike.   I think the reason why people shun wallpaper is the perceived effort in taking it down should you tire of it.  It may seem like a commitment.  Well, wallpapers have come a long way and are pretty effortless to take down. So, there is really no reason not to add some to your home!

There are so many patterns and colours to choose from – bold and graphic, subtle tone on tone, whimsical, glam.  I’m sure there is a wallpaper for everyone!

Here are some of my favourite wallpaper room images from my Pinterest account.  Although wallpapers work in any room, I think they are particularly suited to powder rooms and bedrooms.

You can see which wallpapers I included in my round up here.  All of the wallpapers have links to the respective sites where you can click through to find the wallpaper of your dreams!

Happy Halloween everyone!  (My little pumpkin was home sick from school today (just a pesky cold) but I’m hoping she will be OK to go out tonight if only for a half hour.)

Happy Halloween

Have a Simply
Happy Halloween!

Khorfakkan ~ Day trip

A fabulous day trip destination from Dubai is a getaway to Fujeirah or Khorfakkan… If you leave early in the morning, you also get to see the gorgeous sun rise…

Khorfakkan is scenically the most beautiful part of the entire country. Khorfakkan belongs to the state of Sharjah but is actually surrounded by emirates of Fujeirah.

Which means a drive from Dubai would be via Dibba, Fujeirah and then finally to Khorfakkan. Don’t miss out the Fujeirah market on your way. You will find some carpets, clay pots, plants, chimes, and other random stuff.

Khorfakkan is a popular tourism spot, surrounded with huge mountains and attractive beaches. You can also try some jet skiing, diving and snorkeling when you are there.

It is definitely a getaway from the husle and busle of life in Dubai. Its quite, serene, scenic… You can hear the shores, the birds and watch the clouds… The colours of the mountains blend perfectly against the blues of sea and the whites of the sand…

The drive back is incomplete without a stop of chai (tea!). You don’t necessarily have to take the same route back to Dubai. The drive through the mountains is surely worth a shot!! Have you been to Khorfakkan?? Let me know!!

What a lovely day!! *sigh*

Style at Home: Halloween Tricks and Treats

I was so thrilled when Elaine at Style at Home asked me to participate in their Halloween Tricks and Treats story.  I shared a simple decorating trick using black and white.
Halloweenstory2011

We were asked to share either a Halloween decorating “trick” or a favourite “treat.”  Being such a keener, I decided to do both!  I adore my white pumpkins from West Elm.  The candelabra is from HomeSense and was $12 – you can’t beat that!  I used this recipe to make the caramel apples – so easy!

I styled this photo in my office as the lighting was the best for shooting the photo.  I recently painted my office walls this gorgeous colour from Para (Straight Leg P5157-75).  I will share more on that later but I absolutely adore this colour.

Be sure to read the other Bloggers’ Halloween Tricks and Treats here.  Thanks Style at Home for including me – such an honour.

Have a wonderful weekend!  (I’m linking up here.)

Halloween Thoughts

We have a busy Halloween weekend ahead.  Is it just me or was Halloween just a one-night event when we were kids?  It’s a full three-day affair now, and I have to come up with regular costumes plus book character costumes for my school-aged kids.  (Do I sound like I’m complaining?!)

At least we’ve settled on costumes.  (Thank goodness Party City offers free shipping!)  We’ll have a one light-up vampire, a storybook witch and Olivia (the pig).  Makes perfect sense together, right?

I remember being Cyndi Lauper on repeat Halloweens. I loved that it meant I could get my hair spray painted orange. I wish I had that picture. . .

What was your best costume as a kid?

Back to design talk next week.  In fact, check back tomorrow and I’ll have a great giveaway from my sponsor and Etsy pillow shop, Elegant Touch.
