'Babies are such a nice way to start people.'
- Don Herold.
A good friend of mine is gloriously pregnant and a few of us got together to throw her a baby shower, just before she left to her home town for the delivery. We had a great time planning it, buying decorations, researching games, taking photographs - So much fun!
Here are a few pictures of our special day and the decor that went into it.
All the decor was as blue as could be because surprise, surprise; she's got a little gentleman on the way!
You can find beautiful specialized decorations for your blue or pink celebrations, all at your nearest party store, but be warned - you'll want to buy everything you see 'coz it's all so adorable!
These decor pieces were simple, cheap and super cute. We stuck these photo paper baby rattles all over the walls and they brightened up every corner!
I absolutely loved these! They're called 'danglers' and true to their name, they 'dangle' from the wall with little baby feet hanging from the bottom - isn't it precious?!
We planned the shower at the last minute, so we had to come up with a few quick, easily available decor options. We found these little plates, especially for baby showers and they doubled as wall decor - our mommy to be loved them and wanted to take a few home as well!
And this was our photo spot. *smiles*
It was beautifully framed with balloons and the little backdrop teddy on the wall.
We posed and laughed and struggled to all fit into one frame. So simple, but so special, y'know?
Another important part of a baby shower and one which can pull out all the 'aawws' and 'aahhss' is the cake or little munches you serve. We enlisted the services of a fantastic local home baker 'Tachez' and this is the gorgeousness he prepared for us.
These were our baby jumper biscuit give-aways. We had them in different colours and designs; all our guests loved them and secretly whispered how they wanted a few more!
And here are our little baby shower cupcakes!! The cutest, yummiest cuppies EVER.
And finally, everyone's favorite - the Baby Bottom Cake! 'Cute' doesn't quite say it! We were all so delighted with it, it took up a good half an hour of conversation. And it tasted divine - lovely deep chocolate...yum. Hands down, choose a good baker and you've got 50% of a great party sorted.
Since we were such a varied bunch, we even manged to mix the festivities up a little. We had games, food, cake, chit chat, spoke about new mother experiences and then there were flowers. Some of the guests brought tons of flowers to adorn the to be mommy, virtually from head to toe! It's a tradition followed in some parts of India and one which was new to me as well.
This is one of my favorite shots of the flower series. It covered both our main guests. *smiles*
All in all, a great celebration. It's always helpful to remember that you can prepare for baby showers on any budget. Wild and lavish, or small and pocket friendly. It also makes sense to decide what parts of the shower you'd rather spend your money on. Think out of the box, find fun games to play and let each thing you plan have one sole aim in mind....to bring a smile to the New Mommy.
After all, this is the stuff memories are made of, right?
