Continuing on the subject of kitchens from yesterday, I recently spotted this image on a new-to-me blog, and the long shelf under the cabinets caught my attention:

I love the look of open shelving in kitchens with stacks of white dishes when I see them styled in magazines or on blogs. But, my reality would be a nice arrangement of mismatched sippy cups lining the open shelves, and who really wants to look at that?
This idea, however, works for those of us who love open shelving but just have way too much junk to hide. (And, the extra storage/display is an added bonus.)
See Krista's entire kitchen renovation here. (It's pretty incredible.)
Here's another variation of a similar solution:

I'm loving the shelf in front of the windows and the overall brightness of this white kitchen. (Their sippy cups must be stored in the cabinets under the sink. . . .)
How do you feel about open shelving? Pretty or unpractical?
