Now. . .And Then: Sarah of Thrifty Decor Chick

Then . . .

Now:

What makes me cringe when I look back:

It was just so brown…and beige. With some tan thrown in. ;) But I’ve always been so proud of each stage of our spaces along the way. The very first picture was seven years ago and we were at such a different time in our lives. We had just moved into our new home, were trying to figure out what worked best where, and we were in a MOUND of debt.

And I look back at pictures from last year and cringe – my style is constantly evolving!

Then. . .

Now:

What I love most about my home now:

I love all of the COLOR. The older I get the more I crave it and try to incorporate it into our home. I used to make everything match the wall color. :) I also love to mix old and new – antique pieces, Goodwill finds, and a few splurges. I think it makes for a more interesting space.
But most of all I LOVE that our house is comfy and cozy and it feels like a family lives here. I try to strike a balance between a bit of sophistication and a laid back, relaxed feel. We’ve got a four-year-old and a gaggle of animals in this house, and everything in our home is meant to be used by each and every one of them.

Then . . .

Now:

The biggest influence on my evolving style has been:

I’d have to say my family! I know that’s kind of a weird answer, but I want our home to feel like a big warm hug when hubby walks in from a long day at work. I never want our son to feel like any space is hands off for him. I want my stepdaughter to bring her girlfriends home and lounge all over. But I also want it to feel classic and timeless when friends walk in the door.

My style is a constant mesh of all of these things – and it’s fun to see how it changes over the years. Having a DIY/decorating blog gives me the perfect “journal” to see how our house has transformed. :)
