A Trip to the Flea Market

Katie and I took a fun-filled trip to the Raleigh flea market on Saturday.  We found some great things for ourselves, for client projects and some extra things that will eventually find a home.  I love searching for unique accessories.   You just can’t beat the flea market, thrift stores, etc., for one-of-a-kind pieces.

Here are a few of our finds:

The theme of the day seemed to be wood.  We found lots of great crates and boxes, including this old fireworks case (currently under my coffee table).

We bought this set of old Chinese shutters to use as a large piece of art in a client’s living room.

A huge piece of driftwood.  Got a great price, although I still offered less.  The guy wouldn’t budge, as he swore that he risked his life among gators to find it.  Hmmm…..

I thought this little bench would be an easy Saturday project to paint and recover.  I’m planning on using it in my closet.

A small coffee table/accent table that I’m seeing repainted in a bright color.

I thought this old book of shorthand would be fun for framing in a big collection.  Hopefully, it doesn’t say anything obnoxious since I don’t know the first thing about shorthand :)

And, this was just one of Katie’s purchases for the day.  She bought this vintage blazer for a dollar and planned to cut the patch off (her husband’s a Duke grad) and frame it.  I made her swear that she would make him squeeze into it for a picture before she cut it apart.  (It’s all for your enjoyment, after all. . . )
