Whether you’re a fan of Pottery Barn or not, you have to admit their catalogs always have some good food for thought when it comes to accessorizing. They have a great styling team, and I always look through the pages carefully for new and unexpected ways to arrange/store/display things around the house.
Here are some easy styling tricks I spotted in the latest catalog. . .
- A pretty basket makes a great trash can, especially if it’s in plain view.
- You don’t have to stop at just two rugs when layering carpets.
- Trays and simple containers make everything look more stylish and organized on your desk top.
- Create a faux bulletin board by taping a collection of favorite photos inside picture frame molding.
- Make simple storage baskets more interesting and personal by attaching clipboards, numbers, etc. (pretty notecards or vintage photographs would work, too).
- Use an old trophy as pencil/pen storage. (One of my favorite ideas.)
- Have trouble coming up with centerpieces? This one is super simple. Grab three terra cotta pots (the more weathered, the better), fill with greenery and layer over a pretty table runner.
- I recently saw a similar display on Pinterest and like the collected look they bring to a space. Silver trays are a dime a dozen at Goodwill and other thrift stores. Pretty and inexpensive!
- Struggling with that awkward space above the TV? Hanging a horizontal tapestry is an interesting idea.
- So many ideas I like here—using old door knobs as picture hangers, dominos on a window sill (cute for a kid’s room) and the numbers add a fun, graphic punch.
- Cut wood doesn’t just have to be stored near a fireplace. Filling bookcases with it is a great way to add natural texture.
- Group lots of the same item in small galvanized containers—another inexpensive option for storage on your desk, kitchen counters, bedroom dressers, etc.
- All art doesn’t have to be framed. Layering these old maps and pinning them directly to the wall gives the room a really casual, relaxed feel.
- Love the idea of using clips to display photographs, postcards, notes, etc. So easy to change out and more interesting than picture frames.
- Don’t be afraid to hang art above the doorway height. It draws your eye up and works especially well here to create balance.
