My Habitat Restore Lantern Redo

Every time I visit my local Habitat ReStore, there’s always a slew of brass light fixtures.  I’ve been without overhead lighting in our home office for a while now, so I went in search of something to make over and came home with this:

I was a little unsure of the style, but the price was right ($85), and I knew I couldn’t afford anything new that was comparable in size (it’s almost 40” tall).  Spray paint to the rescue:

What I didn’t consider is what a pain in the neck painting it would be, starting with taping off each individual glass section (inside and out):

(I used Rust-Oleum Metallic Oil-Rubbed Bronze.)

(A paint pen for this part would’ve worked better. . .)

The whole process took me several days and I think I swore I would never do it again.  Then, I remembered how much money I saved.  Although not the exact style, check out the price tag for this large, painted lantern I found online:

Yep, I’ll take my $85 lantern and a few days of frustration.  Although not a perfect paint job, I’m really happy with how it turned out.

My office is really close to being “finished” enough to show you.  I promise to work on cleaning up my desk for pictures this week and will post them soon :)
