I am very lucky. My mom has always been very supportive in everything I do. She is always there to lend a hand, or offer advice when I need it. One piece of advice that has always stuck with me is, "trust in yourself and follow your instincts." This piece of advice follows me day to day, I use it when making design decisions and life decisions. My parent's have been visiting us in New Mexico this week for Mother's Day. My mom has taught me that, sometimes in life, you just have to let it go. I'm quite the planner (okay, let's call it what it really is... a type A control freak!), so when things don't go the way I planned, it can be hard to handle. She's made me realize that sometimes it's just best to roll with the punches and make lemonade when life hands you lemons. This has become especially true lately, as I am gleefully pregnant with my first child (a boy!) and my husband and I are trying to sell our house based upon his employment relocation. It's a lot at one time! But because of my mom's wisdom, I've embraced the fact that I'm sprucing up my house for showings instead of decorating a nursery... I've learned to sit back and enjoy the ride! I can only imagine how invaluable that advice will be when it comes time to parent our little pea pod. Thanks, Mom!

Mom's are full of so much valuable advise and it's constant throughout life, almost too much sometimes. Mom's always know best, right??
Growing up, she always told me that friends come and go, but your family will always be constant. As a teenager, you think your friends are so important and your social life is everything. Very soon after graduating from high school, and losing touch with many friends, I learned those friends I had were never my REAL friends in the first place. She was right, and my best friends today, beside my husband of course, are my mom and dad!

One of the most important lessons my mom taught me was to "make memories" with your children. Some of my favorite memories made with my mom were when she signed the two of us up for classes, at the local community college on Tuesday nights, when I was in high school. Not only did I learn how to arrange flowers, weave baskets, knit, and many other things, but I was able to have that special time with my mom making memories I will never forget.
And, the best decorating advice my mom has ever given me is to always use fresh flowers. They cheer up a room and make a room more welcoming, more inviting even if the room is not perfectly decorated.
